Brady had a long wait today for his surgery to remove the dialysis catheter. He begged and begged for a drink to the point that the Doctor and nurses finally gave in and gave him clear liquids. His surgery went fine. His BUN was 66 and his creatinine count was 1.9. If he eats and drinks like he should, he should be able to go home tomorrow. However, if we wait for his food like we did tonight that could be a problem. For example, we ordered him a banana at 8:00 p.m. and it was delivered at 10:59 p.m.
This was quite the scene when Brady got back from surgery.

He was quite the little wild man in the post op and so the nurses brought him immediately back to his room. He kept coaxing for the computer, but even after he got access to it he was still so upset that Tammy crawled into bed with him. He then hung on to Grandma Joan's arm as he played. However, if Tammy even began to think about getting out of bed he snagged her too. This was probably one of those scenes that you'd have to be there to appreciate the dynamics of it all. It was hilarious!
Kacie's blood counts are pretty much the same. Dr. Chang told us today that her preliminary guess for the platelet counts dropping is that the heparin used in her port and dialysis lines to keep them from clotting may be thinning her blood causing the drop. Another possibility is the antibiotic given for her urinary infection. She said that there is a slim chance that she is still struggling with HUS, but she highly doubts it. She said that her platelets look very young and healthy under the microscope so she doesn't believe there is any kind of blood disorder. Kacie's cousins Brooke and Brittany have come to spend the evening. It really helps Kacie to have young visitors.

Good luck with Brady that would be nice for you if he was able to go home. I'll bet he is more than happy without added tubes in him.
Best wishes with Kacie. We keep praying for your family.
Tammy, so happy for you! Now to decide who stays with whom and who goes home with whom....hard choices for a mom. Again, thank heavens for close grandmas who give you a few clones of yourself when needed. The photos of Brady have been fun. He's got such a personality that manifests itself in his actions. I decided I definitly need to watch the sign dvd so I understand the signs when he wants to tell us something. We've all been sick with colds here so haven't been to see you this week. So happy for you. Love, Aunt Barbara
Hello, Tammy & all!
I (we) have been thinking about you tons, but like Barbara's family, have not been feeling real great so I didn't want to add to the "germ" pool over there. It was good to talk to you on the phone the other day and get a "live" update. It sounds like things are definitely going in the right direction for the most part. You are still in our thoughts and prayers each day and hope you've been able to feel the love we've been sending your way. We'll keep checking on you!
Love, Tami
We are so glad Brady is coming home! We are excited to come and visit everyone!
Kacie, we are visualizing "happy kidneys" also!!! We love you tons!
