Brady had a bad night last night. He had a lot of bloody stools and blood in his urine. His BUN went from 55 to 80 (it should be under 20). His creatinine went from 1.7 to 3.4 (it should be under 1). His platelet count was 19 today. They did give him a blood transfusion early this morning. He was still peeing, but because of the dangerous blood levels Brady had surgery tonight and Dr. Curnow put in the dialysis catheter. He will begin dialysis tomorrow. This morning when the they did a chest X-ray Brady called for "da da, mama, Pandon (Brandon), Kacie, Pam-ma (Grandma), and Pam-pa; just anyone who would rescue him. It was a long day with no food and drink for him. He just begged for drink, drink, drink. It was hard not to give in and give him some. He has become fond of his nurses Ben and Cheryl. Ben even diapered a stuffed dog that Brady named Max.
Brady came out of surgery and placed in PICU at 10:00 p.m. Dr. Curnow said that all went well. He also commented that his colon looks relatively normal not anything like the horrible shape Kacie's were in. Brady is also on room oxygen at this point. No life support. We are so thankful!
Kacie had a relative better day. She even got to go out of the hospital for a couple of hours. She choose to eat Panda Express food. We took it back to the Ronald McDonald House to eat. She got to rest on a "real" bed for about 1/2 hour. When we got back to the hospital she peed again (330cc). We were all very excited. She was very concerned about Brady and walked down to his room twice to visit. Later this evening she peed another 100cc.
So today we had both ups and downs, but then that is the way life seems to be for so many. We've thought a lot about the pioneers and marveled that any of them lived to get to the Salt Lake Valley with all of the contamination they had to endure. What a miracle that story is! And we were reflecting, too, that seven years ago today terrorists created havoc on our American soil causing great heartache. How do folks go on in the face of such turmoil? It is because so many good people stand up to help. You are such people. May our Father in Heaven bless you for who you are! We know that we are not alone as we inch our way forward just one moment at a time. Thank you!

Thanks for the update. Sorry to hear about Brady, but glad to hear that Kacie could get some PANDA.
Saying no to Brady for drink & food must have drained your stamina and emotional reserves...I give in wayyyyyyy too easy to my grandkids! Sheree sends her love over the phone. She's had a head cold and 2 babies with colds and stuffy noses and no sleep but she says that's nothing compared to you. Brigston walked this week. she's elated! Your blog tonight was inspiring. We always look at others and wonder how they did it. You are one of those examples of "putting one foot in front of the other" to keep going. May you receive extra blessings to your body & mind. Tonight when Mckinley said the dinner prayer, she prayed for Brady and Brandon so sincerely. (She didn't even know about Brady's surgery). It was so sweet how specific her pray was for each of you! A few minutes after her prayer the phone rang and we learned that Brady WAS going to have surgery! I told Mckinley and she said, "it is a good thing I just prayed for him!"
I love the faith of children! I know so many people are praying for your ENTIRE family! We hope you feel our love at this time! You are truely amazing!
