Still Waiting...

We were asked to write a short paragraph about Kacie and provide two pictures (one healthy and one sick) for the NW Kidney Kids. They are going to make a card with the paragraph and pictures to put on tables for an upcoming benefit dinner. This is what we came up with:

Kacie has always been a healthy active girl. She is very smart and enjoys basketball, track, swimming and especially playing games with family and friends. This all came to a stop August 14, 2008, when she contracted E-coli which caused Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome and eventually End Stage Renal Disease. She was 9 years old and in the hospital for two months bouncing in and out of ICU. Kacie is still on peritoneal dialysis 10 hours every night as she waits for a kidney transplant. Four people have tried to be a living donor for Kacie. The last attempt was at Doernbecher's Feb 22, 2010. We had signed the consent and were preparing for the surgery when thirty minutes later we got the word that Kacie had developed antibodies that would immediately reject the kidney and the surgery was cancelled. We are still waiting to get Kacie back to the healthy girl she once was.
